Gonna start by saying this one is my favorite entry out of the Psuedonatural / Outer Planes group, there's a lot of elements in this one that bring it together. Ill start with the beginning with what sounds like stabs of a sakura plugin, that + the eerie wail and pad in the background give off mad Lovecraftian vibes in their subtlety and is a really good opener. Despite what you say about the brass, its actually my favorite part of the track each time it comes in, it really adds a sense of danger to the unnaturalness of the rest of the track and keeps you on your guard. I like how 2:46 and onward you managed to throw melody in there, but by making it half notes you still added a sense of "unnatural" to it as well, smart move.

The only critique I have is the section at 1:03 - 1:53 could use some more work, I feel it doesn't really fit with the rest of the track just in terms of style, its unnatural but its not as atmospheric. If you could fit some atmospheric element's in there it might bridge with the rest of the track better. but in general it stuck out to me while listening.

Overall sick job mate, I get a very cinematic feel with this track and could see it being used as not only a title track, but for a cutscene or scripted/special event in a game. The cinematic feel of it just says its a track that starts a change into unnatural territory and honestly I cant get enough of it. Amazing job dude!

PandaThePanda responds:

Thank you! Nice call on the sakura plugin, had just bought it and was amazed how cool it sounded. In the 1:03 - 1:53 part, I like you said went for a more unnatural feel, but it would most likely be better with more atmosphere. This is the only song I have made that's in this genre so I was not sure how to handle that part. This is the most fun I've had making music so I'm happy you made this challenge, it was a really cool idea!

Whimsical, and yet, still a sense of uneasiness. I can see this with the scenario you painted, but I can also see it being used while in the archway as well. What comes to mind is as soon as they enter, its a massive light tunnel that propels them forward to the other side, but the entire time they can see glimpses of the world they left and the world they're about to enter, seeing how everything shifts from familiarity to unfamiliarity and surrealness. The piece not only conveys uncertainty of the moment but a suspenseful journey as well, and that's a double win in my book, great job!

Kassich responds:

Thank you for the kind words! I love that you could see the same piece from a different perspective, very cool!

This is interesting, I can see this being a boss theme to a pixel turned based rpg game.
The unique drum patterns, wobble bass synths, and note progression of the lead really come together and sets the mood that what your fighting is something not of that world, creating a really unpredictable foe. Nice job dude!

Thx m8

to be deadass, if this doesnt get you to the next round, i will be very confused

Sylux03 responds:

Agreed.

This is really well done!

Id just say the mixing of instruments could use a little more fine tweaking, they sometimes get super muddy at parts and it loses me a bit.

Pro wise, the overlapping of that cello is dam good, its prob my favorite part about this track.
I could see this being in a game like the FF13 series or a medieval magics based MMORPG

Super solid, well done

For the strings and Bass drum, I gotta know what vsts those are, they sound really well and Ive been on the hunt for a good set of strings and orchestral drums

Baumarius responds:

Ah, alright. Thanks!

I use Composer Cloud Plus (the highest tier - if you look at it, it won't be shown right away. It's $50/mo) for all my samples. I used the cello in Hollywood Strings Solo Cello, the violin in EW Gypsy, the drums in Stormdrum 3, and Hollywood Strings for the rest of the string samples. Honestly, I'm probably just not using them totally right lol

Would just say watch the attack on that sakura string, the 1st note kinda threw me off a little
Strings also sound a little loud, but that part might honestly just be me

Pro wise, i like the over-arching nature of both the sakura strings, really feels like a "somethings not right" kinda vibe in a creepy sense, the rapid kick also adds to it

Pretty dam solid. Liking it.

Just wondering though what did you set the looping mode to when exporting, cuz it sounds like you left it on Leave Remainder which kinda ruins the loop a bit with the small delay it has at the end?

CakeIsOP responds:

I just exported it and left everything on default, the audio did get kinda messed up. Thanks for your criticism though :)

Real trippy, def relaxing
Id just say be careful with all that automation and pausing that starts around 2:28, seems a little overdone and could throw some listeners off, but with the exception of that this is pretty solid
gg

XxItsHimXx responds:

Thanks man! I don't get a lot of reviews but ill be sure to work on those pauses you're talking about!

Pretty well composed
I can see this being the intro to a 8bit or 16bit game, a title theme or even a character theme.

Valeguard responds:

thanks for the feedback, i'm very new to trying to make music (obv) so it's nice to hear that my song comes across how i kinda meant it to.
